From Farm to Table: How We Deliver in Hours

Insider

How many times have you gone to the store and bought salad mix, only to have it turn brown a few days later?

This is what it’s like for most people who are trying to eat healthy greens. It’s not that the greens are bad, it’s just that… they’re old. Weeks old! Living Greens Farm is changing that by growing local, indoor produce that will stay fresh in your fridge for up to two weeks longer. How, you ask? Let’s take a look inside the farm and I’ll show you!

Hi, I’m Michelle Keller, Head Grower at Living Greens Farm. We’ve spent the last ten years developing a process that ensures you and your family are getting the freshest, tastiest greens on the planet. And we do all this without using any pesticides or herbicides.

You may have seen some of our other Plants Talk Series videos and already know that growing the greatest greens on the planet starts with the seed. But once the plants have been harvested, what kind of process do they go through to ensure they remain fresh longer? To us it’s simple. We deliver our produce to stores hours after harvest. Not days or weeks.

Why Your Produce Goes Bad Faster

Did you know that 90% of produce is grown on the same field in the West Coast? These crops require massive amounts of resources and rely on chemical fertilizers to encourage growth. Plus, since these crops are primarily grown on the West Coast, the lettuce from this field is transported thousands of miles, stopping at stores along the way, and takes time to get to your local grocery store. This time often results in the products going bad faster.

The Local Touch

So how do you make sure you're buying fresh produce? Living Greens Farm’s leafy greens and herbs are delivered to stores with a travel time of no more than one day. And we’re able to package produce the same day it’s harvested!

When we harvest our plants, we bring them directly to our wash and chop room. Here, the produce is sorted, washed, and chopped, making it ready to eat as soon as you open a bag.

We package and ship our produce that same day and deliver it to you locally within 24 hours, keeping your produce fresh, crisp, and green. That’s our Fresh Farm to Table Promise.
