Plants Talk: It Starts With The Seed

Insider

It’s been over 25 years since the first genetically modified vegetables became available in the United States. Since then, farmers have been using more and more chemicals like pesticides and herbicides to combat crop resistance to those substances. This helps farmers reduce crop loss and generate more revenue. The consequences, however, have a profound impact on our environment and leave many concerned about the affects to our health. If we want to begin moving away from chemically enhanced foods, it starts with the seed.

Hi I’m Michelle Keller, Head Grower at Living Greens Farm. Today, we’re talking about a new way to grow fresh produce. While most produce is grown using genetically modified seeds and an abundance of chemical fertilizers, we’re convinced there’s a better way.

The Next Generation Of Farming

This is where the next generation of farming comes in. At Living Greens Farm, we’re growing plants in the air. We only select the highest quality seeds; because we grow indoors, we don’t have to worry about crop loss from disease, bugs, and other animals. This means we never use pesticides or herbicides to control our crops. And to ensure there are fewer points of touching, we use a hands-free seeder to deliver seeds into a clean rock wool sponge that will help the plants retain water and nutrients more efficiently.

Our plants are continuously monitored for quality assurance and because they are fed only the essential nutrients they need, like calcium, iron, and nitrogen, they grow faster and stronger than outdoor farming methods.

We invite you to follow us along on our journey as we show you each step of our farming process. At Living Greens Farm, we care about the environment, and the health and safety of your family and we hope you’ll join us for this amazing series!
